Sad Question And Choke? Questions

a few quetstions, firstly if im to remove the sad will it make much difference when driving in the cold etc as the idle when warm is 1200 due to the cam fitted or will it just be a bugger to start?

secondly, what is the device above the sad with the water hoses running through it and can i remove that also? (and replace with just 1 silicone hose)

and finaly, there is a water feed into the throttle bodie, what is it for and will it be ok to remove this also

the reason i want rid of al this basicaly is to reduce the things that can go wrong, and in the case of water hoses, leak like hell or burst, and genraly reduce all the spagetti in the engine bay, as there is loads!

cheers for any help/advice

Paul

Removing the sad complety has been done before but its just a case of pushing the pedal down to keep it from stalling when starting from cold however, im not certain on what and how it needs to be done. Have a search because it wasent long ago it was posted.

Secondly, do you mean the thermostat housing?.

Thirdly, yes you can block/remove these pipes as they only genrally warm up the throttle body in very cold conditions.

Correct me if im wrong any one........ :D

i think he means the housing above the sad. iirc it contains the ecu water temp sensor so if you bypass it the ecu wont know what temp the water is, hence you will get poor fueling.

oooo now i get you, i was thinking about phase 2 cars where the ECU temp sensor is at the back of the t.stat housing where as phase 1 sensors are mounted on and just above the SAD.

However i think you may be able to seperate the temp sensor and the SAD cant you on phase 2?

the part that im refering to sits directly above the sad, its a rectangular metal block with a hose coming in from the bulk head and a very short hose going into the thermostat housing, its bolted to the same thin metal plate as the sad, il take a photo tonight when i get home from work and post it up so you can be sure of what i mean,

thanks for your help :D

think iv just answered my own question as this looks like it here, and the seller is calling it the temp sensor

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/205-309-GTI-SAD-AND-...1QQcmdZViewItem

how does it work on the phase 2 cars?? as id rather not have it lol so if the sensor could be fitted elswere that would be ideal

Paul

Yeah the SAD is the top part and the water passage that hold the ECU sensor (not sure of correct name) is the bottom part. Bascially on phase 2 cars it doesnt have the water passage and the ECU sensor is then just placed behind the T.stat housing between the exhaust manifold and the water temp sensor and switch.

If you would like a picture let me know as im doing a head swap at the moment on one of my 205's.

yea a pic would be great ta, would i be to bolt a phase 2 thermostat housing onto the head and get rid of what i have?

Why worry about the water way with the ECU temp sensor in? Just leave it there, you aren't going to gain anything by moving it...

Taking the SAD out is dead easy. Just take it off and block the pipes at at convienent places. Tie up the now redundant connector somewhere it can't short out.

However, you will find it "interesting" in cold weather for the first few miles. Depending how you set it up it is likely to stall everytime you take your foot off the throttle, e.g. approaching a junction, unless you fit something equivalent.

yea your probably right about the temp sensor bit, im just tryign to get rid of those to water hoses that could leak, but im just being a fanny,

as for the sad the idle is alredy quite high to stop it being so lumppy ad crap, its s*it to drive in cold weather anyway,
