zilog 0 Posted June 2, 2007 The car has been nothing but trouble since I bought it, and now it even has blown the diff (and cracked the flywheel in the process). The engine is a standard 1.9, only mods are better flow through the intake and exhaust. Everything I read about these cars tend to happen to me. twice. I am now about to fix the bloody car, but I dont know whether or not I can trust it to stay in one functional piece anymore (should I get a Volvo instead? Im inclined to..) Is this something unique that has happened to me, or is it likely to happen again? The diff sat in a BE1 gearbox with 150k miles on it, and had Tranself 75W80 GL-4 oil in it when it blew apart. What can I do to avoid this from happening again? Thicker oil? Is wheelspin through corners on an open diff really that dangerous? What signs of impeding diff-doom should I check the new gearbox for? I am inclined to take the small gear wheels out of the diff and check the sliding surfaces for signs of damage, but apart from this? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
pip470 61 Posted June 2, 2007 Well first thoughts are 150,000 miles and its only just blown apart, thats not bad especially if its getting abuse. Only heard my mates 106 dif break up whilst doing a burnout. One wheel had stopped and the other was spinning then crunch. I think fix it with a known good one if you can and drive with confidance.
