Dis- And Re-assembly Of Be1 Gearbox

Recommended Posts

zilog

My 1.9 205GTI -89 with -91 gearbox has blown the diff and therefore needs a new gearbox (amongst other things that died in the explosion). The thing is that my old gearbox has flat gear selectors, and these have been converted to accept rose jointed gear linkage, and therefore the round arm of the replacement BE1 gearbox (see this link for pictures -> http://wintermute.csbnet.se/~zilog/vaxellada/) wont fit the linkage that is left in the car.

Can I open up both gearboxes and just swap the selector arm/oil seal and be happy with it, or does something differ on the inside as well? I have noticed that the round arm is thinner than the flat arm.

Second, I want to open up the new gearbox just to check that all is fine as I want to take every step possible in avoiding being left standing beside the road AGAIN - are there any gaskets I need in doing this, or can everything be sealed using silicon sealant?

If anyone knows a description with pictured for doing this, please post.

Not sure what help this is to you,

but i know they deffienetly can be stripped and parts interchanged.

i sold a box a bit back and the guy who picked it up wanted it purely for the 5th gear for his other box.for road rallying (it gives an advantage?)

he explained it to me but it went over my head like a jumbo jet plane(in a big way)

surprised i aint bumped into him on here actually..

so yes you can interchange bits but no i cant tell you how to do it.
