pee vee 1 Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) hi all been searching about. basically dont want to trust the 'friction fit' oil pump drive in my mi16. (alloy block) so i was looking at the Gti-6 pump drive as I believe it has a keyway. but will that fit directly to my crank, if i went to peugeot and bought the GTI-6 drive cog and woodruff key? or would i need other bits too? thanks! I believe you would need a longer chain too, XU10's seem to have larger diameter on the crankshaft pumpdrive.
pee vee 1 Posted May 31, 2007 ah right. thanks! so the gti-6 crankshaft is the same diameter as the mi16 then? good to know
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted May 31, 2007 ah right. thanks! so the gti-6 crankshaft is the same diameter as the mi16 then? good to know Yes the sprockets will fit fine, same diameter on crank.
pee vee 1 Posted June 2, 2007 got one today. £6.15 for cog drive 51p for the key £16 for the chain. Only thing i am worried about is the Crank seal, actually sealing on the new GTI-6 oil pump drive.. it dont seem to be that tighter fit.. might be worth getting a gti-6 crank seal too ? possibly very slightly different :s
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 2, 2007 I'm sure you need the GTi6 cam belt drive wheel too, But it's been a veru long time since I looked at this, But the drive wheel is half a tooth out compared to the Mi16 one.
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted June 2, 2007 I'm sure you need the GTi6 cam belt drive wheel too, But it's been a veru long time since I looked at this, But the drive wheel is half a tooth out compared to the Mi16 one. I found only yesterday the cam belt pulley on my xu10j4r (very simialr to the 6) was indeeed different and was required for the oil pump sprocket setup, problem then though is you will also need the correct pulley for the ancilleries belt, I found only the xu10 pulley fit against it correctly regarding the 'offset' and woodruff location. Something that you may need to factor in
pee vee 1 Posted June 3, 2007 does that apply to me too :s Ive put it all together roughly for now until the chain arrives (on order from pug) it all seems to look ok, cant really understand why i would need the cam belt drive too?? or have i missed something very obvious? (i bet i have lol)
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 4, 2007 You need the spacer/belt protector that goes in front of the end cover, I;ve got a engine on the stand at the moment so I'll have a play and see what happens to refresh my ageing memory
B1ack_Mi16 67 Posted June 4, 2007 (edited) You need the spacer/belt protector that goes in front of the end cover, I;ve got a engine on the stand at the moment so I'll have a play and see what happens to refresh my ageing memory The oil-pump sprocket in those pictures does looke like the small one found in 2.1 TD engines, and also in 405 T16 engine. The Mi16 should be a little larger, and the S16/306GTi even bigger again. The one in the picture is used in combination with the other type oil-pumps which have bigger gears inside, and will flow much more oil and therefor don't need to rotate as fast as the more normal pumps. I think it might have something to do with they are mounted on turbo engines, to be able to flow the extra oil needed through the turbo. EDIT: Btw, I've read your post once again, and it seem the sprocket in those pictures actually is the one you bought as a XU10J4RS/306GTi6 sprocket? I've checked parts cd, and the diesel and 405 T16 sprocket with modified poump has 18 teeth, while the S16/GTi6 is supposed to have 26 teeth. The one on the picture really looks like a 18 teeth one, so count them and see what you get. Edited June 4, 2007 by B1ack_Mi16
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 4, 2007 Well spoted and it does look more like the one I have on the 8v turbo engine I;ve built, the S16 one just about fit's in the hole with the chain on
pee vee 1 Posted June 4, 2007 (edited) yeah it is the Gti-6 one (according to pug anyway) so have they sold me the wrong one?? if they have theni cant be fooked with it i'll just use the crap mi16 set up. and it is smaller than the mi16 one.. i was wondering about the oil pressure it will surely be lower with this gear... is this going to fu** up? EDIT: yeah i had thought about the inner protection bit and had sort of got something to go in there. Edited June 4, 2007 by pee vee

EDIT: yeah i had thought about the inner protection bit and had sort of got something to go in there. You surely have been sold the wrong pulley if it's smaller than the Mi16 one. The 1.9 Mi16 and 2 litre S16 and GTI6 engines have the same size gears inside oilpump, so you want the gear that's bigger than the 1.9 Mi16 one. The 26 teeth wheel has partnumber: 02 0513 68 01 PUMP CONTR PINN 26 DTS END O 08280
pee vee 1 Posted June 4, 2007 (edited) is it actually worth the bother of me going back to peugeot to order the proper one. do the mi 16 ones actually fail at all? assuming you keep the pulley bolt wound up tight and thread-locked Edited June 4, 2007 by pee vee
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 4, 2007 I have known the odd one to come loose, But as with everything anything can go wrong at sometime. I;d get the right drive wheel from them
pee vee 1 Posted June 7, 2007 thats a bit better.. Have got the gti-6 chain too.. is the tension looking about right? Sorry for all the pics!! If it is I have a idea to get it right.. cheers!
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted June 7, 2007 tension looks same as mine, all pug engines Ive worked on looked the same as well. Is that new sprocket fixed together in one unit? Mine the tooth wheel is seperate and held by interferance.
pee vee 1 Posted June 7, 2007 (edited) Its all one unit mate, same as the smaller one im holding in the pic just gotta get rid of the oil pump (just test fitted) for a shiny new one, then the bottom end is nearly done Edited June 7, 2007 by pee vee

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 8, 2007 Another don't I'm afriad, Is don;t get a pattern pump as they are the only one's I;ve had problems with, Get a OE one or keep the old one as they never really give any problems at all, Worth using the upgraded spring thou
