What Hose Clips To Use

Recommended Posts

i've got a complatete oil breather kit and a complete coolant hose kit from Spoox and BBM respectively to fit to mi Mi engine, what clips do people use? Are jubilee's strong enough or should I buy some Mikalors? Does anyone have the sizes needed listed anywhere, I found an old thread for the coolant hoses if it's accurate. And lastly, where is a good place to buy from?

Thanks

Jubilee's should be fine, always found them sufficient tbh. Just don't re-use old ones, there cheap enough to justify replacing. B)

Jubilee clips are fine. Make sure you get the ones that have a fully perforated thread on them as opposed to the ones with a raised thread. The ones with fully perforated threads are much stronger. You can get them from www.rswww.com - search for <s/steel hose clip,HD> (not the bolt ones..they would be proper over spec..!)scroll down and you will see the ones i mean. Not sure where you can get sizes from though.

Cheers Baz, i've just found HCL Fasteners on the net, theirs seem to be good quality and are smooth inside so i'll go with those.

Their clips come in packs of 5, by my reckoning i'll need 1 pack of 13-19mm, 2 pack of 22-32mm & 2 packs of 35-51mm clips. I'll also being buying 2 packs of 10-16mm clips and hope I've got enough to do the oil breather hoses aswell

Jubilee clips are perfectly sufficient for all the breather and coolant hoses on a 205 in my experience, although I'd echo the comment of others in that it's worth getting new ones as you're talking about a fivers worth for the whole car (having just replaced all mine when I replaced the engine and hoses)

Cheers guys, I placed an order with HCL in the link above, although it came to a tad more than a fiver. -SOS, flexible hose clip driver, righto, i'm sure ebay can supply me with one of those.

Too late, but JCS Hi-Grip stainless are superb quality.

Not cheap at £25 for the Samco coolant set, but worth it for piece of mind.

too late also - but another vote for stainless clips which last forever and a day (and stay shiny too if you're an anorak like me) As an aside you can't get through scrutineering for historic and vintage events with small Jubilee clips on fuel hoses these days (it's probably the same for modern motorsport too if I had any experience of it :) ) Hose clips smaller than about "OO" tend to pinch the hoses and allow leaks.
