Knackered Rear Beam - The Symptoms

Recommended Posts

Guest the voyeur

Just need to clarify something. When I turn left, I can here the rear tyre rubbing on the wheel arch, especially if it is bumpy. I have read through previous threads and have concluded that this must be the rear damper needs replacing. What I would like to know is what are the symptoms of a knackered rear beam?

I belive that when a rear beam is nackerd it makes the top of the rear wheels fold in slightly, lilke having lots of positive camber. Never experianced it myself though! not sure what other symptoms there may be.

Cheers

Dave

if its rubbing then its unlikely to be the shock as this wouldnt create any camber, just a bouncy wheel on rough surfaces and general loss of traction.

Stand behind the car and check the wheels are parallel IE I I not / \ , this would indicate a knackered beam. If it is doing this best to sort straight away before it seizes.

does sound like your beam is knackered. I've just replaced mine as the drivers inner sidewall was rubbing on the inner arch on hard cornering.

By the time you get visible camber on the rear then beam is well and truely shot...you should really try and repair a beam long before this stage.

Just had my beam refurbed, Cause I had squeaking and squealing when generally driving along. Turned out to be the beam bearings going. Luckily I got them replaced before It was too late. I guess the grease and stuff dries out inside the beam.
