Where Abouts Do The Reverse Light Switch Wires Run

Recommended Posts

Where abouts do the reverse light switch wires run from the switch on the gearbox, back to the reverse light bulb in the clusters?

-My wires have disappeared I believe!

To the fuseboard first, then to the back.

They run through the engine management loom to the 2 plugs in the drivers footwell, which then dissapears through the rest of the loom to the lights. Not sure but i think the live feed comes from the fuseboard to the switch through the multiplug and back to the fusebox and which then connects out to the rear of the car.

I'm having similar issues with mine. I think the previous owner has put a phase 1 rear bumper on a phase 2 car, i.e. no reverse light in the bumper. However, you don't need a reverse light I believe for an MOT, but if it's fitted then I suppose it needs to work.

But if you have a phase 2 car then I guess you can replace the light with a reflector (as currently on my car). If my car passes its MOT next week one of my jobs will be to fit a reverse light for completeness!

My issue is the wiring has vanished from my engine bay gearbox switch!

-Apparently pulled out or something so I need to locate these wires.

Yours is easy to check, try looking in the rear bumper for a reverse light unit instead of a blank unit, then check usual suspects like bulbs and wiring, fuses & earths.

NO - they are not an MOT requirement as they are a 'driver aid' and not a piece of equipment. However, I have two reasons for rectifying the fault on mine. One is it would help your case in a reversing incident and people (well I do) notice someone reversing more obviously because of their lights showing. And secondly they're white/clear to help you see where you're going. This can help in a poorly lit area, such as in the lanes in Cornwall at night trying to turn round after your navigator has f***ed up B)
