Crap Running When Cold But Ok When Warm

Recommended Posts

pugbliss

hi all,

when the car is started up from cold it runns a little rough, there is a phutting from the exhaust and the performance just isnt there. BUT when the car has warmed up it runs better...the phutting isnt there as much and the car picks up better and runs smoother.

could it be the AFM? temp sensor or somthing else totally?

cheers

joe

ECU temp sensor or SAD would be prime suspects.

What is it idling at when warm? What is it idling at when cold?

Sounds like the SAD to me, or maybe just the idle and air bypass needing setup properly. In theory the car would run worse when warm if it was the coolant temp sensor.

are you sure the ecu temp sensor and SAD have the correct corrections going into them? As i had cold start problems only to find out, thanx to people on here, that some1 had got the electrical connections to them wrong.

The ecu temp sensor connector is blue and the SAD connection is black on a jetronic system.

If you need to start the car with a little throttle to get it to tick over when cold it is more than likely the ecu temp sensor and sad. ECU temp is only £10+ vat from gsf and easy to change if you have a deep 19mm socket

the connections are correct as this problem is relatively new.

i think for the sake of £12 ill renew the temp sensor then go from there.

could it be anything else electrical?
