Rebuilding Rear Hubs

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

I'm finally going to get round to fixing my bent rear beam bent stub axle).

I have some new stubs coming, and also some ZX arms but no shafts. My 309 shafts are going on, and I was also going to stick my disc hubs from the 309 arms on them.

According to the Haynes manual though, once you've pulled the hub bearings off they are fubar and have to get new ones, which it also mentions only come complete with a new hub!?!?!?!?!

Please somebody tell me this is tripe :)

The outer races are the same piece of metal as the hub - the hub is the bearing outer race. If you are careful I am sure you can clean, regrease and reuse the old bearing as I have done on my car.

It is possible, but requires great care and cleanliness, not easy!

If you press the pin out instead of pulling the bearing off you save it without any problems at all

Just noticed whilst searching GSF that the 309 and ZX hubs have different part numbers.

Can someone tell me if 309 hubs will fit onto a ZX arm using 205 GTi 1.9 stubs?
