I'm guessing by the location that its the power feed for the SAD, which is bolted onto the thermostat housing underneath the dizzy

On a Jetronic loom, the ECU temp sensor plug is blue, SAD is black, and reverse light is white.

umm so does that mean i could have the blue connector going into the SAD is actually the ecu temp sensor feed?

the connector pictured above comes out of the wiring loom with the plug that goes to the dizzy, the two wires that go into the black end are blue and white, then it plugs into the red plug with a rubber part attached to it and then goes no where!?

how can i tell if i have a jetronic loom?

It is a Jetronic loom you've got - the Motronic looms used a flywheel pickup rather than one from the dizzy like you've got.

And yes, by the sounds of it, someone's wired it up wrong - the blue plug is for the ECU temp sensor, and that black one should be plugged into the SAD.
