Recommended Posts

i know that there will be lots of different views on this but what are the best suspenion mods front and rear for fast road use with the occasional track day on a limited budget?

Cheapest are stock bits off other cars, e.g. 309 rear beam and front wishbones. I've also heard rumours about ZX hubs (rear arms?) but don't know much about these.

I think some people are also looking into 306 rear beams...

Go for a 309 gti rear beam with standard 309 gti dampers.

Front konis and uprated springs. Eibachs if you can stretch to it.

zx trailing arms run 0 degrees toe in and more negative camber than the 205 arms.

Uprated bushes would be first on my list with a boggo car

whats the difference between 205 gti and 309 gti rear beams?

being in canada theres not any parts over here for 205's so any thing i get will have to be sent from over sea's and the bigger and heavyier the more expensive.

do the uprated bushes make big differences or is it best to go for shocks, front springs and torsion bar adjust?

Width, (approx 50mm wider).

Torsion & anti roll bars are all 1mm thicker than the 205 GTi ones. (20mm instead of 19mm).

so by increaseing the rear beam width i take it that it makes the rear more stable?

is this just a straight swap or are there any mods involved?

so with the 309 rear beam is there any mods required or just straight drop in?

also what about the 309 front wishbones? i take it that these are wider too?

The 309 wishbones are wider, so give the car more negative camber at the front.

Wildcards mentioned new bushes, but I've often read on the forum that the best and longest lasting bushes are OE ones. You may want to do a search, oh and check your current bushes for wear.

(Anti-roll bar bushes, wishbone bushes, also the steering rack and balljoints on the wishbone, anti-roll bar link, track rod end, etc. Also check that the front subframe bolts aren't loose!)

You may want to look at grp N (hard rubber) or grp A (solid) mounting bushes for the rear beam. :)

The 309 rear beam is a straight fit bar one minor job.

All you usually have to do is turn the rear rubber mounts 180' so the studs match the spacing on the 205 shell, front mounts on the beam should fit straight up.

Like Ahl said, the 309 front wishbones give a slightly wider front track thus inducing some extra negative camber but although some have run the 309 wishbones with 205 driveshafts I personally prefer to use the 309 ones because they are a little bit longer to allow for the extra width.

The extra width iof the 309 beam makes the car more stable & increases the turn in.

Have a read through this topic. hopefuly it will answer all your questions about fitting the 309 bits onto a 205.

Graham.

Thanks Graham for the link it was helpfull i will have to look into shipping cost before deciding what mods to do.

What are the average costs for 309 rear beams and 309 front wishbones and driveshafts? new or used?
