Removing Drivers Seat?

Recommended Posts

Guest adam_ellis

Tried removing my drivers seat, but it seams to be stuck solid.

Which bolts do you have to remove? Wheres the best place to WD40 it?

As usual the haynes manual is no use!

Cheers.

best bet is to remove it complete with the mount frame, but you can doit leaving this in place, to remove complete with frame, if you look at the four corners of the frame where it screws into the floor, there is a torx head screw, at each of the two front corners, and two on each of the back corners, you will have to move the seat up and down, forwards and backwards to get access to all of them, soak them with wd40 before you try and loosen, as they are pretty tight, andbe carefull not to round the heads when undoing

As far as I remember, there are 4 torx head bolts, one in each corner.

Slide the seat as far back as possible and you should be able to get access to the front two.

Slide the seat all the way forward to help with access to the rear two.

With those undone, the seat should come out easily....

Edit: Too slow :D

Cheers.

I'll try drenching them in WD40 for a week or two and give it a go when the weather is a bit better.

Dot these bolts go right the way through to undernearth the car then? If so is it worth soaking then underneath as well?

they screw into taps, that are sited in thos two raised oblong bits on the floor, you cant get at the underneath of these easily but if you look under the car, youll see holes in the floor in the positions of these screw, havent looked up these holes myself, but im fairly certain the taps are accessible thru them, so try spraying wd40 up them

There is 1 bolt at each corner except for the back corner with the seatbelt buckle which has 2.

If any are going to give you problems it will be these two are these screw right through the floor and are exposed. They are best seen with the car jacked up as they sit in the tunnel with the centre exhaust silencer. It might be worth using a wire brsuh on them to clean the thread nad spraying wd40 etc on them. If it is still tight then undo a little then screw it back in a full turn and undo a little more and wind it back in etc.

The others should come out easily.

Otherwise you will give yourself many more days of grief. I'm currently into my 2nd (or is it 3rd?) week of trying to get my seats out.

I've tried everything imaginable, almost rounded off the heads, tried everthing imaginable again, been called a 'retard' by somebody on here, been to two different halfords who know nothing about bolt/screw extraction tools, machine mart the same, small place told me they couldn't help me unless i found out the exact diameter of the bolt, despaired, cried, went to peugeot to order some new bolts thinking i'll get the fúckers out somehow, completely rounded off the heads, cried some more, and considered driving my car into the canal.

And thats all for one bolt on the drivers side, and one on the passengers. The rest came out easy.

But like the Murphy's, I'm not bitter :D

Oh dear.

I did try once before and couldn't shift them. Like I said I'll try soaking them first.

Have you thought about drilling or sawing them off? I know when I had to remove my grill the other week the bolts were rusted solid and in the end I had to drill them off.

Better access though I suppose.

Can't remember what material the bolts are made of or how much is showing, but you could try cutting a slot across the top of the bolt and use a standard screwdriver if you've rounded the heads off...

Or, if all else fails, file down the head completely, so the seat can be lifted out. It'll not be a quick job, because I think these should be some reinforced screws, but if it can be rounded off (I know it can :) ), it can also be filed. Afterwards you'll have a lot more space to drill out the stuck screws.

You may have more space, but having inadvertently drilled the head off one of my bolts, its still a nightmare getting them out.

I think the bolts are an engineering feat: you can round the heads with ease, but they are nightmarish to drill.

Have u managed to get the bolts out yet Steak&Cake?
