Guest Stu@ Posted May 23, 2007 Ive just finished my Mi16 conversion but of course Ive got problems with the damn thing.. firstly the idle is a bit all over the place (apporx 800-1200rpm) and secondly but more worrying Ive got plumes of white smoke out of the exhaust throughout the rev range and when both cold and hot. Originally I thought it was because the engine has been stood for so long and it was just all the crap in there burning off but Ive been driven it a good few miles and it is slightly better but still smoking. I did a compression test last night and my results are: CAM BELT 1 2 3 4 105 130 175 50 not great eh? adding a bit of oil to each cylinder didnt do a whole lot to the results ( I think 2 of the readings went down?). Im thinking piston rings or head gasket, what do you guys think?
Anthony 1,003 Posted May 23, 2007 If it's white smoke it sounds like headgasket to me - if it was the rings it would be blue smoke.
Alastairh 47 Posted May 23, 2007 Yeah, once the head is off, it'll tell you the answers
Guest Stu@ Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) OK, time to take the head off then! I take it the engine has to come back out so the belt can be tensioned up afterwards? Edited May 23, 2007 by Stu@
Anthony 1,003 Posted May 23, 2007 You can do the cambelt and tensioners with the car, just access is a little tight to the tensioner above the waterpump, that's all
dani959 0 Posted May 23, 2007 Looks like the headgasket is gone on the no.4 cylinder (no 1 by Peugeot's terms)! I just reassembled mine (although it's an 8 valve) with the engine on the car. Fairly tricky job, but definitely possible! Just take your time while undoing/doing the side bolts, the access to them is preety tight! Good luck!
