205gt-ty 0 Posted May 22, 2007 Hi has anyone replaced there ignition barrel recently. I have just bought a new set of locks from GSF as i was fed up of carrying multiple keys for one car. I have had a look at ignition barrel and in haynes mannual it mentions removing the whole steering column, does anyone now if this is nescessary. I have tried removing the little screw that goes into the ignition barrel but it still seems stuck. any suggestions will be greatfully recieved
Anthony 1,003 Posted May 22, 2007 The steering column can stay in place - you only need to remove the cowling. You need to remove the screw (as you've done) and then turn the key until the two tabs on the underside of the barrel are released and you can depress them. Slide the barrel out (which can be fiddly if the wiring is caught) and then if needs be swap the wiring across to the new barrel (two screws on the back) and reassemble. Ryan 99 Posted May 22, 2007 You need to turn the key to about half way between the first two positions (accessories, and ignition). Sometimes there is a mark on the barrel to line the key up with. Then you can push the tabs in and remove the barrel
