Rear Beam Height?

What will happen if on standard diesel shell I put sort off spacers to fit rear gti beam so I don't have to do any alterations to body to use 15' wheels.

 

Is it going to cause any problems or it might just work?

It won't work imo, the GTi beam is slightly wider than the normal 205 diesel rear beam & the spacers would push the wheels out closer to the wing so it would catch more.

 

The GTi beam will bolt straight onto the diesel shell though.

Do you mean spacers between the beam mounts and the body, to raise the clearance between the wheel top and arch? I would think that's a BAD idea. If you wanted to raise the rideheight suppose you could re-set the torsion bars- but i'd expect it to wallow like a pig in corners and look like a 4x4 wannabe :P

Yep sounds a bad idea and will probally be dangerous.

 

15's arn't that hard to fit in the arches, just cut the little lip off.

Just wondering why it would be bad idea it will have the same setup but sitting slightly lower and body slightly higher. And yes it could look like 4x4 wannabe.

Were you running 195/45/r15's on the XS?

 

I've got rubbing on my XRDT shell, and I was wondering what bit of the arch you cut out? Did you lower your XS as well?

Yes 195 45's :)

 

If you feel the arch at the verry bottom the panels join in a 'lip' which aims back into the wheel arch, if you cut that off you can just get 195/45/15's in :D

 

It was lowered a fair bit, was told it was 60mm but don't know for sure.

I've already lowered the front on mine, so I need to do the back. My rear tyre s have already bent the lip a bit, so I think I know which bit you mean.

 

I'll have a go with the angle grinder when I get the chance. I guess a bit of hammerite or something would stop rust once I've done the cutting. :D

Think it is the same idea as the previous thread yea??. So you want to raise the body of the car then lower the suspension? Its a simailiar idea to what you had before yea? So you will have more ground clearance on the body/floor pan but the same ground clearance as std on the rear beam/suspension components. that correct? Out of intrest and to help people understand where you coming from, what are you going to use this vehicle for?

 

 

By the way MIKEHUNT: Get the grinder out and slam that bitch!!
