The speedo needles tend to flicker when the cable dries out. I normally poor some oil down the cable to quiten it down a bit. Other than that theres not much else you can do, the heat from the exhaust dries them out alot.

Ive got the same problem on my 1.9, changed the speedo cable last year for a new one and its still the same and in hot weather its a nightmare because its not very accurate, thinking it might be the worm gear drive in the gearbox which is on its way out.

Sorry yes should have mentioned it could also be th gear drive worn as well but often its just that teh cable needs lubricating.

Do you mean just putting some oil down the cable where it enters the bulkhead - never really noticed mine shaking until I read a thread on it and now it's almost all I think about (this is a lie, I probably think about food or girls or T16's more often).

lol,

You could oil the cable from were it joins the back of the speedo head, wich

means taking out the complete instrument panel/top dash to get to it.

Or pull it out the gearbox and rise the cable in the air and inject oil that way, but then

you might possibley be tipping oil into the back of the clocks?!

So IMO your better off fitting a new cable while your there and maybe putting a heat sheild on it, were it passes the manifold ;)

I've found that forcing grease into the cable works better than oil as it's thicker and seems to withstand the temperature better.

Yeah I tried using spray grease to 'refurb' my old cable, but to no avail :o

Shakes worse a low speed ;)

Wish I'd taken my own advice, lol

At one end it's in the gearbox attched into the speedo drive, then it goes through the bulkhead inbetween the lower heater martix hose

and the brake servo, then it snakes up behind the dash and into the back of the

clocks/instrument's and plugs into the speedo head.

It's one of those jobs really, that may take a while first time you change the cable, but then you

could do another in a flash.,

Awkward part is getting the grommet back into the bulkhead past all the carpet and soudproofing,

a bit of grease on the rubber help's it push home nicely though, lol.
