dani959 0 Posted May 21, 2007 Hi all, Just started my engine for the first time after rebuild. Although I cranked it a fair amount of time (HT leads in the wrong position on the dizzy cap, caused by the no. 1 cylinder location ) when it actually started I got no oil pressure AT ALL! Checked the wires, everything OK; Gauge, working (checked plugging it to a ground); ...so my guess is the oil pump dried! Is there any way to prime it without opening the sump? Also, if I want to remove it to do a clean/check, do I need to remove anything other than the sump? Explanation on Haynes doesn't look very thorough! Thanks and happy pugging! Wurzel 16 Posted May 22, 2007 Before fearing the worse, have you tried another sender unit? Also check the pulley bolt on the end of the crankshaft is tight. It's not unheard of for people to have forgotten to tighten this fully causing the oil pump sprocket to spin on the crankshaft.
dani959 0 Posted May 22, 2007 Also check the pulley bolt on the end of the crankshaft is tight. Tighten it??? OPS!!! It's not even there!!! I just tried to make sure the engine was working before assembling the rest! Cannot believe they didn't put a woodruff key in the oil pump drive! Oh why??? Well... guess I'll check it again tonight, this time with the crankshaft pulley in place and bolt fully tightened and glued! I ran it for about 20-30 seconds... Hope none of the bearings got scratched! DUH! Thanks!
