Mi16 Tappet Noise Movie Inside

Recommended Posts

TALBOT sport

hi there

i have a problem with my fully rebuilt mi16 engine. it knocks from maybe the hydraulic lifters but i have started to doubt that. i now have driven the car for 60 km but the sound is still there. i have checked the lifters and none seemed soft. i have got perfect compression on all four, 13 bar. the engine has got plenty of power, runs very well. I have started to think i might got some bent valves. maybe i have turned one cam when the belt was of so 2 inlet valves might have hit 2 exhaust. is it possible to bend a valve slightly by turning one cam by hand.

well, listen to the sound and come with some ideas.

im a bit worried since i read this thread, seems jerseypug had just the same problem as i have now.

i put some protec engineflush in the engine today and then changed oil to castrol tws 10w 60.

i then drove it for a long time but the noise is still there.

what to do?

guess its not the lifters then but 2 slightly bent valves.

I spoke to the guy who fixed jersey pugs car quite alot whilst he was having trouble with the noise. I dont think this is much help but the only way to confirm is to take the head off and look for any evidance of the valves touching. Its the only way of knowing for definate. It doesnt sound like a lifter to me and you say you have checked them all so i would discount that. I did post a tapping engine on here to but found that three of my lifters had callapsed. Keep us informed.

seems like a common problem when you look at the gti6 forum. a good engine has the head removed and when it goes back on it has a bad tappety sound.

i did mine by turning the exhaust cam with the inlet locked in the safe position. bent 2 valves very slightly but it let me know with the horrible noise it made.

i know that valves will bend if the head is put on a flat surface with the cams in.

pip, are you comeing over for the jersey ralley in october. andy will hopefully service for me. loads of good cars and a good night out on the saturday.
