Hi, a freind of mine drives a 1.6 gti and is having a bit of a problem, he said:

i decided to clean my dizzy and afm today so i removed them and cleaned off all the crud on the outside with wire wool. they both went back on fine but when it came to start the rev counter just darted up to 6000 and jumped about. the car starts but cuts out straight away. any ideas??? dont understand what i could have disturbed.

Any feedback would be great,

Regards, Martyn

Well, if he took the complete dizzy off without marking the position then put it on he could of completly advanceed/retarded the ignition timing. Im not sure whether that would have the same kind of effect though, sounds abit :S

also did he put the leads in the right order or any bits of the wire wool in the connectors of plugs, leads afm, as this can act as a false contacts....
