Rear Wheel Bearing

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

just had the cherry red shed MOTed and they have advised that the rear N/S wheel bearing is on the way out (1.9) beam.

It was new from Neat and fitted by the same garage no more than 2 years and 10k miles ago.

Seems a bit odd to me! <_<

Depends on a lot of factors. I fitted a wheel which unbeknowns to me at the time, had a big dent on the inside, to the rear of the car. Because the dent had caused the wheel to be out of balance by a fair bit, it chewed the wheel bearing up in less than a week.

They are cheap to replace so it's no biggee

Also investigate the spacer-plate that sits between the trailingarm and wheelbearing, that the bearing-seal lip is sealing against. These may be corroded and not seal properly, which again will let water in and it may start to rust. Not sure if these spacer-plates comes with the new bearings, and if not that might be why.

Also, the hub nut must be torqued with the right amount or the bearing wear will increase!
