Pas Rack With No Pas!

I know this has been covered before, but I cant find the posts to answer my questions!

 

I have remove the PAS system the my pug, the pump, ram and piping etc but have kept the rack. What do I need to do hide the PAS ness of the rack from the MOT guy!

 

I have pluged the two smaller two pipe fitting in the PAS rack steering columb end, but havent found anything to do the larger holes, do I need to plug these? I dont really want to cut the ends off the 'good' PAS pipes to bung the holes, can I use anything else instead?

 

What about the stud the ram mounts to, should I just cut this off, as I believe it cant be removed.

I used chemical metal on the holes, or find some suitable bungs if you prefer. Just remove the ram, i left the stud and it went through the MOT just fine.

Let as know what you do and how the MOT goes because this is what I intend doing to mine.

 

Can't see how it would affect the MOT if the steering action is not impared and nothing is leaking though <_<

 

P.S. you can blank the holes off with Milliput, available at all good model shops , cheap and reliable.

It shouldn't, but some jobsworth MOT testers mark it down as inopperative PAS if you leave even the slightest trace left.

isnt "Milliput" like body filler? What about abit of silcone sealent to block the remaining holes?

 

Anyone know what size & thread i'd need for the larger side?

Milliput is a two part epoxy resin and comes in two sticks like plastacine. You mix equal parts together like modeling clay and it sets like stone in about half an hour (less if you apply gentle heat). It will set under water and can be smoothed with water to get a perfect finish.

It is perfect for radiators and I have used it on an exhaust manifold in the past. I also used it to make a gear shift knob for a Mercedes truck which worked very well. You can sand it and file it when it has set, you can even drill into it.

Not bad for a couple of quid. <_<

That's all i've done, just cleaned up the holes and used some clear (all i had) silicone sealer to stop any dirt getting in. They'd have to really look at it to spot it's an ex-PAS rack tbh.

i think i posted my experience of this already... but just to add, i welded the pipe ends up and plugged everything that way and removed everything you already mentioned. yet my mot tester decided to take it for a test drive :( and refused to right an mot for it as it was too stiff to steer properly. even though i could happily drive around at slow speed with one hand on the wheel.

 

now technicly the tester wasnt allowed to drive out onto the road like that, but as it had 10months mot left i guess that influenced his decision.

 

the tester round the corner examined it straight afterwards and agreed it should pass no problems.

You cannot argue with an MOT tester, I once had a brand new track rod end failed because I had painted it. He said that I'd painted the old one and put it back on.

I took it back next day with the old knackered track rod end on and he passed it!! Swapped it back when I got home Tosser!!

My mot tester looked at my rack when I had it mot'd and said have i removed the damper or pas?

 

I told him I had fitted a pas rack for quicker ratios rather than removed the pas from a pas car and he was o.k with it, I do take a fair few cars there though :(

 

It just depends how much of a jobs worth the tester is I think.

The car came from PUG with out PAS however I did retro fit it a couple of years back... So if they wish to get anal about they could check the chassis number with peugeot!

 

This all does seem abit hit and miss. I dont think I'll take it to the place I used last time... one of the MOT tester guys marked down as an advisory that the driving lights come on with main beam! I told the guy point blank thats what the ment to do! Funny thing was that the other MOT guy was there and called him a plank, and agreed me!

 

Thats for the replys, I now have a better idea what I need to do and where to be carefull!

You can though! If they fail and you don't think they should have failed you, you have every right to appeal
