24seven 104 Posted May 18, 2007 any easy ways to get the drum off? just aobut got the hub not off, now I need to get the drum off so I can unseize teh handbrake, but it won't budge. there's a little big of play in it in all directions, but I can't lever it off, hammer it off or anything. really doing my head in this! inferno 1 Posted May 18, 2007 hit it back on and spin it to free it off a bit, then clout it harder outwards again! really hit it, wont come off if you tickle it!
24seven 104 Posted May 18, 2007 I've been hitting it stupid hard! bolted the wheel back on and twatted the tyre with a sledgehammer even. just hope I've not damaged anything doing that. my ruddy hub puller is too small to fit round it
inferno 1 Posted May 18, 2007 only the shoes holding it on... be ready to replace them and the fitting kit
24seven 104 Posted May 18, 2007 thinking I might just use this as an excuse to swap the beam over now. got a 1.9 one minus 1 shock & arm, sat in the garage waiting to go on.
sutol 0 Posted May 18, 2007 Last resort is to break it off or grind it off and buy a new one. They smash quite easily being cast.
Jrod 7 Posted May 18, 2007 There is a way of backing the handbrake off with a screwdriver through the wheel bolt holes but this may not work if yours is siezed?
24seven 104 Posted May 19, 2007 yeah haynes says to try that. it works enough to free up the wheel a bit but not enough to get it off, as as soon as the handbrake it touched, it's stuck again.
Richie-Van-GTi 72 2 Cars Posted May 19, 2007 try knocking the stub axle back out the trailing arm, will give you a lot more scope for wiggling it over the shoes.
