24seven 104 Posted May 18, 2007 stupid staked nut! can't get rid of the stake, and for some reason I don't have a socket that'll fit the rear, though I'm sure I had one that fitted the front (are they different or am I losing it?) anyway how big is it? all I want to do is unseize the handbrake
Ahl 4 Posted May 18, 2007 I think its a 30mm. Once you get a proper socket on it, the stake should pull out. I think the front is 32mm on a 1.6.
24seven 104 Posted May 18, 2007 (edited) largest socket I can find in teh garage is a 1 3/16, but I'm positive I had one go on the front before. this annoys me... another thing, is the passenger side one a lefthanded thread? pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 18, 2007 Other way round Ahl, afaik all rears are 32mm but the fronts are 30mm on a 1.6 / base & 35mm on a 1.9 GTi. Graham.

steve@cornwall 100 Posted May 18, 2007 I tap a flat screwdriver end -( the ones you fit into a cordless driver) to bend the staking back, less effort to undo the b'stards then
