Breaking 309 Gld

Recommended Posts

As title really, i know the beam tube could be handy, what about the hubs, brakes, suspension etc? Are the wishbones, driveshafts etc as a GTi?

What ratios would the 'box have?

Many thanks in advance! :D

Basic 309 GRD will have base model suspension (springs, shocks, wishbones, arb etc), solid discs iirc but the hubs should be the same as 1.9 GTi ones.

Gearbox should be same as a 205 diesel one.(3.47 fd).

Not much really imo, beam tube is about all.

Graham.

Front hubs & shafts are the same as 309 GTI . If it has PAS the steering rack could be useful for a quick rack conversion . Also keep the shaft that joins the rack to the steering column as the uj on it can often fail & it's useful to keep for a spare .

What about the rad? Diesel 205 rad is the same as GTi so I suspect the Diesel one may be as well. Also alternator, starter, rad fans, interior fan, headlights, indicators, rear hatch struts, etc.

When you start scraping you'd be amazed how much stuff really is common (lock set,...) I'm slowly (very slowly) scraping a 205 GLD at the moment.

Oh the seat mouts are handy if its a 5 door. They lower the driver's seat, you loose the tipping mechanism but I never used it on the driver's side anyway.

Rad, headlights & indicators on a 309 are all different to the 205 ones.

Strangely the 309 has a thinner rad than the equivilent 205 in most cases afaik. Definately on the SR/XS/GTi.

Hi BAZ, you don't happen to have a complete set of locks and keys for the car do you?

They ARE different to 205 items (the door locks have a plastic shroud and the boot lock is very different but the ignition is the same)

if its a 3 door I'm pretty sure the side doors will fit a 3 door 205!! (cant remember who told me that...)

I still have the nearly new rad from the Goodwood i broke thinking i could make use of! They're wider than the 205 ones.

De-PAS'd rack would be good too, cheers!

Thanks all. :)

One more question, is the beam the same as a GTi model, apart from the bar sizes? What sizes of TB's and Arb would it have does anyone know?

Thanks again.

Sorry, must've missed that the other day. It's a 5dr, but i can't remember if it has complete set of locks with a working key, i'll be pulling it apart over the weekend though, so will check and let you know. I remember the they are different, i had to buy a set for my first 309Gti, thought the spare 205 ones would fit at first but no, so turned into a fortune! I'll post back in here when i know. :)

The Grdt turbo i came across had 19mm torsion bars, so not exactly sort after.

Strip the beam, and weigh the rest in
