M_R_205 5 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2007 i have a lilte 205 turbo d 1.8 jobby that i use all the time for carryng engines and drunk people about the place, anyway it is incredibly down on power it strugles to get above 65-70, iv checked the exhaust and thats all free from obstructions and the induction hoses apear to be free of obstructions however i tested the presure the turbo was giving and it was arround 6psi, what is the normal pressur this should run at as i cant imagine it being this lw, also is the an adjuster on the wastegate ??? thanks Paul
welshpug 1,657 Posted May 16, 2007 yes there is a screw+locknut arrangement on the turbo, the 1.8 TD engines should run at 0.8 Bar which is about the 12 PSI mark. when was it last serviced though?

Graham. i had i serviced just after i bought it in november and they replaced all the filters oil and what ever else they do to deisel`s lol, and that made no difference, iv put up with it since then but im getting sick of slowing up the traffic when i get to a hill lol, the worst thing is i still got caught speeding in it im halw way through cleanign up the turbo now and il fit it back on once i know which way to turn the scrw lol, i dotn want to drop the boost any lower than it is as its almost imposible to get to it when its fitted
M_R_205 5 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2007 just for s*its ehh, do you think id get much extra boost with the garret??? hehe
welshpug 1,657 Posted May 16, 2007 loosen the lock nut with an 8mm socket/cranked ring spanner (ring spanner better as you can prevent the spindle from turning) then turn the spindle/shaft with a 2.5mm allen key, then lock it again. you should be able to access the turbo from underneath, so give it half a turn then see how it goes, give it another turn or more if it doesn't hit 12 PSI, watch for exessive smoke as well, some is good... obviously while you're at it you could take it further, especially seeing as you have a boost gauge though dont take it too far as its not intercooled. M_R_205 5 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) well i tightend the litle aadjuster as far in as it goes and fitted the turbo back up with plenty of exhaust putty and its alot more livley and it reads just over the 13psi mark, gets to 80-90 fairly well so im very happy, the main boost pipe blows like hell arround the inlet manifold so im going to replace that when i can, only problem is it blows a canny bit of smoke now, im just guessing its the excess putty burning off, fingers crossed cheers all for the advice my car is now mint Edited May 16, 2007 by M_R_205
welshpug 1,657 Posted May 16, 2007 does it smoke much off boost? if not then all you need to do is back off the compensator screw a half turn or two. You'll probably find that you're running a fair bit more boost once you sort the leak though, so fix that first if the problem persists you've got a tired actuator spring
