Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted May 16, 2007 hole in the crank pulley and hole in the camshaft pulley. note the bottom end goes round twice to every full turn of the camshaft so if one lines up and the other is 180 degrees out just do a full rotation of the bottom pulley. jas-E 1 Posted May 16, 2007 line the holes in the crank pulley and cam pulley and stick on the new belt. The new belt should have two lines painted on it. If you look carefully at the cam sprocket there shud be a notch on it near the edge. Line up one of the lines on the belt with that notch, and the second line (which has a triangle next to it) should line up with the notch on the crank sprocket. Sort that side of the belt and just continue fitting the water pump and tensioner. I did it for the first time this weekend gone..not as difficult as it seems!! Just to note that not all belts have these marks on them, Pug ones certainly do but not all 3rd party ones do.
lyncho23 3 Posted May 16, 2007 thanks for all the replies, ive just gone out to the garage and had a look at the belt and the marks are on there, i also found the marks on the cam sproket and crank sproket. just another quick question, is there any certain order you need to put the cam back on the head? for example is there a sequence like there is when you torque up the head bolts? thanks again guys daz
DamirGTI 342 Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) Hi ! Oil camshaft and caps prior to refitting (also it must be really well cleaned same as bearing caps inner surface - with no dust , hares or any type of dirt ..), start from the bolts in the middle and then go around like when tighting head bolts - same seqence troque settings : camshaft bearings caps - 15Nm rocker cover - 10Nm have fun ! lyncho23 3 Posted May 16, 2007 thats great thanks. does the cam shaft need to be in a certain position? daz
steve@cornwall 100 Posted May 16, 2007 thats great thanks. does the cam shaft need to be in a certain position? daz that will sort itself out, the cam has a woodruff key which has to fit into the pulley- there's your positioning
DamirGTI 342 Posted May 16, 2007 no , just oli the cam - caps and fit inside ... camshaft endfloat is not adjustable on these engines you will see how thigs works when you refit first bearing cap on flywheel side .. , and do not mix bearing caps they are numbered - No 1 at flywheel side and No 4 at timming belt side cheers Damir
