Ren 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Hi, I have searched for some info on this but can only find stuff for drums. I have travelled down to Newquay to visit my parents and my rear bearing has gone. Can anybody confirm how to change it. I've had a look at the parts cd and as far as I can work out it goes like this, 1, Remove dust cap 2. Undo and remove nut 3. Remove washer 4. Slide hub off 5. Take off bearing and then refit in reverse. Does this sound right and will it be that simple? This then leads me on to my second question, What tools will I need? A decent list is needed if possible as I'm gonna have to borrow them. Cheers, Ren.
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 15, 2007 Yes, thats exactly the method. You will need a big old breaker bar and correct size socket for the nut (cant remember the exact size, I know that I had to by one specifically 23-25mm I think). A hammer and drift/screw driver to get the washer off. Ideally a torque wrench to tighten it back up to the specified setting. However, when I did mine, I couldnt tighten it up to the correct torque even when jumping on the breaker bar. So I guess you can just do it up as tight as possible for the time being and check it another day.
Ren 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Cheers, do you happen to know the torque setting. Gonna have to do 300 miles back to Leics so I would rather torque it up if possible. Ren.
willxs 0 Posted May 15, 2007 i think its gsf who sell them, when you buy a rear wheel bearing it already comes pressed in the hub so you dont have to faf about with the actual bearing. just take one off and put one on. think there only about £40ish aswell. Like I said, it's a lot. No amount of jumping on a breaker bar could get it up to the setting.
Ren 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Ok, cheers. Just got to find the bearing now. There is no GSF or ECP anywhere around here. Steve@cornwall has gave me a couple of places to try so hopefully I can get hold of one. Ren.
Jrod 7 Posted May 15, 2007 It's a 32mm socket I think. 180lbft
Ren 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Cheers, Jrod. Found a bearing kit for £28.54. Got to pick it up tomorrow and then see if it really is that easy on thursday. Thanks to everyone for the help. Ren.
