Engine Mount Snapped

Recommended Posts

jas-E

Hey guys,

Was changing my timing belt this weekend and took off the top engine mount so that i could have that little bit of extra space to work in. But my mount rubber had ripped apart and was in two pieces. It was all sat in place, however I decided to change it today.

Thing is i cannot get the dam thing to open. Since the top part is torn off there is no place to grip the whole mount to turn it. I understand the lower thread goes straight into the chassis. Is there any way i can reach down there? Or if anyone has had a similar problem is there any advice on how to open it up?

Cheers

Jas

there should be notches in the metal part, use a chisel and a lump hammer on that part.

It will take a few hefty whacks to loosen it.

You could try ripping/gouging/cutting away at the rubber until you can expose the end of the bottom stud thing, and then get a pair of mole grips on it to undo it.

Hi !

As above hammer and long bar will do the trick .

Hammer and chisel all the way, few good cracks will get it moving, then it screws out by hand.

may have misunderstood, but has he not torn the rubber in two - may be the castellations on the top rim of the mount are no longer attached to the rest of it - ?

if it's a genuine Pug mount, there should be a metal lip at its base (which holds the rubber part). never had a good look before, but you *might* have enough room to knock that part round with a hammer and screwdriver/chisel as suggested

thanks for ur help guys..was hammering it before but thought there was a better way.

Damir your post before u edited it was real helpful :D . A couple of whacks on the side of the mount did the trick and after that using my pry bar and alot of whacking on the notches cracked it.

thanks for your help guys
