Next Steps For A Better Handling 205?

Recommended Posts

Nathan

Now the stock 205 gti is a pretty sweet handling motor and I'm trying to have my chassis fully sorted before I fit my turbo engine. So was just wondering what the next logical steps would be to improve the handling further, at the mo it still rolls a bit to much for my liking so what options have I got regarding arbs?

Spec is as follows : 1.6gti, bilstein sprintline kit (lowered 20-25mm all round), group n top mount rubbers, upper and lower strut braces.

My personal opinion would be to stiffen the back end and (if you haven't already done so) fit some Group N / Group A rear beam mounts.

Grp N rear mounts. What springs are you using??? Cant believe it rolls THAT much on Billie sprints on the roadis it rolling front to back or side to side? Have you replaced all the suspension components? What about bushes, rear beam, drop links, wishbones, tyres etc.

The stiffer you make the front, the greater the propensity to understeer. Maybe that, coupled with your driving style is causing the roll?

Yeah my driving style probally isn't the best! But I do live near or drive on some very fast twisty roads (the peak distict is great fun!).

Springs are what ever came with the billy kit???

Just posted a couple of pics of the car on the track in the motorsport section too.

Not changed any other bits although most stuff on the car seems in pretty good nick, I was just wondering what the next logical bits to upgrade would be.

I plan to change to 309 wishbones as soon as I find some more cash!

Tyres are Toyo's which I should hopefully kill in around 4k as there pants once you get a bit of heat in them.

You might find a 309 front anti-roll-bar to your liking if you can't reduce the rolling enough.

I'd go for some better springs first of all. The ones that come with the kit are nothing special. Eibach 7001's and Skip Brown Cars roadspeed springs are apparently very good if you still want to keep some comfort.
