Longun 1 Posted May 14, 2007 (edited) I've got some water getting into the back of the car. It was sitting inside the rear arch infront of the wheel arch. I found a blocked drain that was causing the water to sit but can I seal the arch with sealant? Here are a few pics. The first is the side letting in water there is a gap between the rear arch and side panel and the second is the ok side which seems to have a slight weld or sealant going further up the arch. The last shows how bad the gap has got at the top of the rear arch on this one both sides seem equal. Again can I seal these areas or is water supposed to run off that way? Is plugging up a stripped 205 always this hard? I never noticed these problems when I had carpets and interior trim These fixes are only for a year before I can get the shell stripped and re welded and re painted. TEKNOPUG 3 Posted May 14, 2007 Has it been in an accident and had the panel replaced? Shouldn't look like that at all.
Longun 1 Posted May 14, 2007 I think so too. There are a few irregularities between both sides, nothing registered against the car so it wasn't recorded, most other places look normal but the back drivers side panel and the boot have been done at some point. Like the rear seat mounts were bolted one side and riveted the other. Anyone got a pic of how it should look?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted May 14, 2007 Anyone got a pic of how it should look? no but look a couple of threads down at mine for a pic of how it shouldnt look and why you need to sort it ASAP.
hengti 2 Posted May 14, 2007 it's probably best not to look, but do you know what it's like in the rear corners? (behind the lamp clusters) i'm pulling mine apart at the moment and have started spotting all sorts of (minor) rust issues - i suspect mine had been repaired in this same area by the prev owner but don't think the inside of my rear 3/4 panels look quite that bad (not that yours look that bad), but the rear corners have had it on mine i can take a piccie of the inner rear 3/4 in a bit and stick it up later if it helps
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted May 14, 2007 It looks like a OE panel, Normally replacement panels are black inside, Looks like the OE sealent has gone hard and cracked as the qtr's there are only glued on
Longun 1 Posted May 14, 2007 no but look a couple of threads down at mine for a pic of how it shouldnt look and why you need to sort it ASAP. Spotted that and got a bit worried. I don't think its anywhere near that yet as there really is no rust around door frame joint or the sills. To be honest the rust thats there is just surface as some of it scratched off. but with water coming in there its only going to get worse so I want to patch it up till the body gets sorted can I seal the bad joints after clearing the rust and treating? If so what with? I'm guessing a body shop should be able to patch it up quite cheap it doesn't seem to have rusted anywhere else but both arches are missing sealant so would need to get both done. However the one shows me what it should look like on the top of the arch. Passenger side Drivers side Henry just been out to check and the rear lights are clean and so is the door frame. hengti 2 Posted May 14, 2007 might still be of interest: other side looks the same (and not that different to yours) although i suspect the side shown above has been repaired at some time - burnt paint is visible under the filler cap which might suggest that weld-on dent pullers have been used glad to hear your rear corners are ok:
Longun 1 Posted May 15, 2007 Had some really heavy rain today and now its also getting in through the sunroof drain pipe and the rear passenger quarter window. Next time I need to sieve pasta I'll just pore it in the car.
Robsbc 0 1 Cars Posted May 15, 2007 I've had a similar issue with water coming in through the sunroof drain pipes, mine were knackered according to the bodyshop who looked at it for me. Every time I washed the car and drove off water would be sliding onto the sunroof lining at the front and the rear then eventually spill onto the rear seats. Longun 1 Posted May 16, 2007 Rob. Mine has rusted bad on the join but only on the one side. I'm not too worried at the moment because the sunroof is being removed next year. Suck some silicon in there and its fixed it for now.
