Torx Screw And Offset Washer.

Recommended Posts

just before i refurb a 309 rear axle, i'd like to ask a question regarding the torx screw that screws into the torsion bar.

can anyone give me any hints on removing them? i know im going to struggle with them, most likely i'll round off the torx hole. so if anyone has a knack for getting them out then i'd greatly appreciate it. i'm competant with stripping and rebuilding these beams but never have i taken a torsion bar completely from a trailing arm.

Chisel a notch on the edge first, then try and knock it undone a touch with the hammer and chisel before using the driver.

T40, clear out the muck then impact driver, never fails. hope the shafts not too tightly corroded in for you, can be a git to get them out.

As for washer, scrap out the grooove on it till it's clear then twat it to that side to get it over to then ping it out.

I find that with most Torx bots that they have a raised bit on their tips which prevents the bit from sitting as deep as it should do, making it a lot easier for the bolt to round off/break the bit, very frustrating when you want to get on and rebuild your beam!

I grind the end flat so that the bit will sit as deep as it can into the screw, doink it one with a lump hammer, you then should have less trouble undoing the screw.

Before you undo this end though ensure that the 13mm nut on the other end will come off the stud, as if it is seized on the threads you will just push the torsion bar out when you turn the nut and will be stuck with an immovable stud/nut which will require attention from an angle grinder.

Good Luck!

the ones ive just undone where about 12mm from corrosion. both arms are out along with the studs, i buy a new set of studs everytime i strip one these days, and i put a thicker nut on the end too! peugeot dont supply them in that skinny width anymore i think.
