Running An Extra Earth Wire From Starter..

Recommended Posts

Anton green

Yes I'm running an extra earth wire from the starter motor directly back to the battery. Just want to double check really Im going to put the cable in the most effective place.

I'll be running the wire from the head of the thick bolt which appears to have either a 15mm or 16mm head and appears to secure the starter to the gearbox.

Does this sound about right?

The standard earth from the gearbox to the body/battery should easily suffice. The starter is earthed through the gearbox anyway.

Yes but if cars always worked perfectly there wouldnt be any need for mechanics or us to have our heads under the bonnet every other weekend!

It wont hurt anything by having an extra earth there, so thats where it went ;) I have been doing some preventative maintenance on the earths of the car recently, and now I can fully rest easy

Earth's on Peugeots are not that good to start with, and after the best part of 20 years they can be very troublesome. People have had good results upgrading and adding earth leads on GTi-6's and 106's. Using better cable for the earth leads from battery to gearbox and body is a good start.

I have made cables from decent flexible battery wire, some new terminals crimped on then soldered for good measure and covered in heatshrink for good measure. Never had an earth problem with the original gearbox location.
