ah250 0 Posted May 11, 2007 Hi, Ive just purchased my first 205. Its a 87 CTI that requires some TLC! OK, the mechanism that clamps the roof to the windscreen (the handle assembly with the 'hook') had sheared. I spotted this when i bought the car and cleverly thought 'no probs just a tack weld will fix'. The actual assembly removes from the rest of the frame by undoing two torx bolts. Since then i've opened my eyes and realised that the assembly is cast (and therefore not weldable). Both sides have now broken (o/s & n/s)......I'm after suggestions as I am guessing that its a fairly common problem..... Any ideas chaps for a fix (or anyone want to sell me some????, or point me at replacement parts etc) Cheers Dave

ah250 0 Posted May 11, 2007 (edited) Hey, what Steve didn't say was the P&P was £25.....only joking.... Steve, get me your details, i'll throw you a few quid extra for getting me out of a fix... Cheers Dave... Why they used a casting god only knows.....One has gone right across the plate that fixes to the frame, the other has gone at the 'handle pivot'......It must be possible to weld the castings, specialist do weld this type of material.....has anyone tried it???? steve@cornwall 100 Posted May 11, 2007 Wow Steve, they were cheap! The often go for a bomb on ebay! Came to me cheap, with a s/h hood that I took some frame bits and the rear window from.More cars will be kept running if we're sensible and don't ask silly money for bits just because we maybe can. Many members have been kind to me in the last year We are supposed to be fellow enthusiasts here are we not? P.S. throw in another 840 squid and I'll give you a very nice 91 CTI free
ah250 0 Posted May 11, 2007 Well said... If everyone had your attitude, well we'd all be quids in and a whole heap happier! Dave
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted May 11, 2007 Some of the stuff that goes on ebay is a fortune. It pays to get involved with car clubs and forums to build up a network of people you can help and who will help you

ah250 0 Posted May 11, 2007 to be truthful, i have so many issues that need 'little bits and pieces' i'm starting to think i'll be better off buying a spare CTI! Any offers! Dave

Dave I broke 2 last year, and still needed to buy parts! The cabrio-specific parts are seriously stupid money (where available) from pug dealers and difficult to source elsewhere. If your carpets, door/window seals and rear quarter hood stiffeners are shagged, start crying now...........................I assume this is what keeps the price of the cti so low,If you can find one with all these bits in order, and no splits in the door skin, you're onto a winner IMO Edited May 11, 2007 by steve@cornwall
