dicky20014 4 Posted May 10, 2007 If I set off from a junction quickly to get into a gap etc or go to turn into a junction quite quickly, as I am either pulling out of the junction or pulling off from turing into the junction, the car violently kangeroo's and has lack of power. Don't have a clue what it could be but it doesnt happen in straight lines so I thought possibly something (fluid / liquid) moving to one side of the car due to the car turning? Any idea's / answers would be great, bearing in mind I don't know alot about these cars, have only had mine 3 months (car: 205 1.9gti 1987 pre cat) Thanks

pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted May 12, 2007 Loose engine earth lead? Check the earth stud nut on the gearbox is tight. I recently worked on a car that was having starting problems & this was the last thing I looked at only to find it was slightly loose, tightened it & now it works perfectly. Graham. dicky20014 4 Posted October 29, 2007 this problem is still on going, left it for a while as had lots of other problems to sort out (mot etc). Thought i'd have another go at it, the gearbox earth was tight but thanks for the idea, could it be a fuel surge? and if so, how would i solve this? Think it only does it when turning right, doesn't do it if i take the corner easy but does if i push it a bit harder - getting a bit dangerous now though as the power suddenly drops mid-corner, not good! Any idea's would be great cheers
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Have you fit a phase 1 fuel pump into a Phase 2 tank? i.e. replaced a white/yellow pump with a black one. The Black ones are shorter than the yellow ones so you have a gap under the pump causing fuel surges. If your car has a black dash it's a phase 2 and should have a white/yellow pump. Take a look under the drivers side back seat under the black plastic cover and check what colour the pump is. Edit: 87 should be phase 1.5 black pump anyway. unless someone has fitted a phase 2 tank then your problem is something else. DamirGTI 344 Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Hi ! If you have adjustable ignition (Jetronic engine management...) try playing with the ignition timing - advance a little bit and see if that helps ... and also check if the vacuum capsule on the distributor body is in good condition and look for a small pipe which must be connected from the bottom of the TB to the vacuum capsule .. Also check carbon track inside the AFM first visually and then with a multimeter - voltage output must rise smoothly as the flap is opened -> must never decrease as the flap is opening not even for a moment !! Cheers ! Damir Edited October 30, 2007 by DamirGTI
Anton green 12 1 Cars Posted October 31, 2007 With the engine ticking over, open the bonnet and being careful not to trap yourself/clothing/wires/common-sense in any moving parts, try moving various wires about to see if there are any loose connections which may become evident if the engine stutters while you are moving any suspect part about. Dont tug on anything, just lightly move wires about and check nothing is making a bad connection.
