On my car, i totally didnt bother running it in at all, just let it get some oil temp, and drove as usual....

Probably hit the limiter for the first time at about 5 miles

Let you know if it blows up!

I was the same on the last mi16 I built. Built the engine and test drove it 180miles by driving to a trackday, then spanked its arse for 250miles around anglesey :( The engine's done maybe 12,000 miles in total and now lives in my girlfriends 205.

mine blew after 1200miles, was fully rebuilt for the sum of 2k.....fortunately it wasn't me who paid that!

I kept the revs low for over 1k, oil was changed at 1k too:(

I've just had my Mi rebuilt too, general opinion from what i've read is to use running in oil and keep it under 4k for 500 miles, change the oil and start to progressively use more revs until your using the full range by the time you've done 1000 miles, then chuck in some decent oil and start driving normally.

I did 500 miles on mineral oil keeping it below 4K with varied throttle (not full though) and driving to try and help bed in the bores etc well. I then dropped the oil, changed it for some semi-synthetic and drove normally (i.e. I dont take it above 4K until the oil hbas warmed up and dont use lots of throttle from cold).

just recieved a fresh rebuild from hiflow with running in instructions.

when first start it, dont let it idle, keep the revs between 2-3k for about 15mins.

change the oil and filter

rev upto 5k for the first 500 miles

rev upto 6k from 500-100

change oil and filter.

use fully synthetic after 15,000 miles

also, if you have a look on puma racing's website, he's got details about running in an engine and why to do it the way he proposes :(

This bit is only really applicable to when you have a new camshaft fitted. You should look to run the engine for about 30mins without letting it idle (2*15mins) if you have cooling issues.
