James_m 0 Posted May 9, 2007 Hi, bit of advice needed here... Car failed MOT on handbrake last week, so i looked about fixing the problem today, but the bolts securing the pads are stopping play on both sides. Problem is, they most likely havent been off for years, and i cant get a socket over them! This might be a bit difficult to explain, so bear with me.... the lower of the 2 bolts is too close to the right angled thing that secures the pads at the bottom of the caliper, so i cant get a socket over it, and frankly a spanner is not really up to this (the higher bolts required a torque wrench to loosen). Matters have been made worse by me removing the caliper, and one of the extremely bad condition pads breaking away from its backing plate, then eventually splitting in 2 So i cant drive anywhere now... Obvious solution to me, is to cut the right angled thing with a hack saw, so ive got enough room to get a socket over it, then problemo solved! But peugeot only sell that as a kit with all this other crap, and im guessing its going to be pricey.... plus they are too lazy to big up the phone today it would seem, so i cant even check.... What im getting to i guess is, can i get the right angled thing anywhere else? or pug only...?
GLPoomobile 958 Posted May 9, 2007 Just knock the right angled thing off. It is removable.
Alastairh 47 Posted May 9, 2007 (edited) Theres 4 19mm bolts on the caliper, right? 2 that hold the pads in (may need to remove this bracket to wind in the piston) and 2 bolt that connect to the arm of the beam. To get the pads off, i normall remove the 2 19mm bolts thats on the arm, once there out, just tap the caliper off the disc with a suitable hammer (you will need to jack the car fairly high, as the bolts normally require a breaker bar, and space is tight on the passenger side). Then a little wiggle of the pads and they'll come out. But if you need to remove the other 2 19mm bolts e.g. to wind the piston in with certain tools, then just bolt the caliper back on the arm and undo with a socket. And yeah the 90 degree slider, just taps out with a flat screw driver/chisel once the pins are off. Alastair Edited May 9, 2007 by Alastairh
James_m 0 Posted May 10, 2007 Ok, cheers for the help I thought the right angle only comes of the side where the bolt is, effectivly locking it in. Bit worrying if it does come out of the other side too, whats to stop it happening when your driving and your pads disappearing with it! that little clip does'nt look up to much....
