Do These Harness Belts Look Ok To You Lot?

Recommended Posts

chris1986

this was advise i found using the search button and came up with one about using the origional mounting points to fix the harness buckles to. but i need to know it's going to be safe enough. i can't see why not as they're strong enough for the origional belts. anyway any tips fire them this way

the main thing i'm after knowing is that if i were to be in an accident will my limbs still be intact due to incorrect fitment.

do you mean so the cross over each other. i was thinking about this when bolting them in but wasn't sure if it would be strong enough for 2. but then again i havn't fitted any before

I think the back ones looks fine as they are.

Are the inside ones bolted to the seat subframe as that's not a good way of doing it. I know thats how it's originally done but in motorsport you arn't allowed so there must be a reason.

Better to drill a hole in the exhaust tuneel and use a proper plate below it.

Looks fine to me apart from as Jrod says, i wouldn't have the harnesses fixed to seat or it's mountings.

I would be more worried about 2'' belts... i was warned against using them as they tend to do damage in serious accidents - 3'' distributes the force better, and are much safer.

Very true, another Motorsport reg. is 3" belts (lap and strap). But they're still better than std belts obviously. :D

so does any one have pics of where they have put there harness side straps (I.e. the straps that come through the side of the busket - NOT over your shoulders.)

jrod is that a plate welded to the underneath of the car, what have you actually bolted it down with. any one know the reason for not mounting it to the origional mounting point. also good point about the 2" harness. i got these included so not much loss. think i will move to 3"

There is a plate under there yes, no need to weld it really.

Search ebay for harness plate and they are only like £2 each

jrod how is it attached to the car then- bolted down?

as for the harness themselves i have decided to scrap the 4 point and just get some 3 point ones, sound ok for regs in hillclimbs? that way i can just bolt them to the back seat belt mount. any advise on which to get would be great. these are going to be used on the road aswell so are going to need to be able to pass mot. someone said i have to lookout for the british kite mark for it to pass test

3 points are probably fine, provided you don't crash. I don't think that is a sensible move... A 2'' 3 point harness will feel like crap, and offer questionable saftey in an accident - I think you would be better off with a standard belt...

The side one's are dangerous as they are now, Instead of keeping you "pulled" into the seat in an accident they will simply pull the side of the seat which could result in the seat collapsing thus not keeping you up straight. The rears are also illegal as they need to be a certain angle coming off the rear of the seat more like the one you have mounted in the original belt mounting. Ideally you should have spent a little more time on installation, The popular way to mount them in a 205 is to use the original factory point by the door as you have done, Then on the other side you should put new "eyes" just behind the handbrake, The rears are a bit more difficult as you nees to put 2 eyes (and plates!!!) roughly where the bottom of the rear upright seat meets the floor. These are quite fiddly to get at when you've drilled the holes, 2 people are needed to make the job easy.

it's ok i'm not driving it like this, wanted to know if it was safe or not.. sor far to change from that setup is the ineer mounts- plate to be fitted there. didn't know about the angle at the back so will look into that never heard that before, so might put in 2 new eyes and plate. also if i do that i would keep a 4 point and 3" wide. fx1 don't suppose you have a pic of that setup do you? anyone give me a link to these plates so i know just which ones to get. thanks

I think that angle is fine and 100% legal.

This is how my harnesses are attached at the rear

You can see the original seat belt mount point on the left (which is plated as std) and just to the right a harness plate. I just drilled through and attached the eye bolt through the body to the plate. This is OK for scrutineering, belts are at an OK angle (my seat is mounted lower on seat rails though).

from your pictures shown you are not using the thingy with a spring to hook on to the eye-bolt (spring catch?), so i do not think you need the eye-bolt. you may just bolts to fix it on the plate.

right i have been looking through alot of magazines and stuff. these should do the job. 3"lap and shoulder. they look to come with some attachments for bolting them up? anyway before i order them do you think these will be up for the job. will be using to hillclimb shortly. i now have some eye bolts and plates if they will go with these

Great, but expensive. If you want a similar alternative, do a search for 'Ricco Racing' harnesses, very good quality, FIA approved etc etc, and about £85 a piece delivered iirc.

I would go for the SRS 3" 6point from Peter LLoyd RAllying - £90 inc VAt.
