Recommended Posts

Does anyone no how to hard wire the fan so it stays on all the time beacuse it kicks in when the fan feels like it even when the engine is red hot, so im wanting to keep it on all the time saves the hassle thanks j

You fan should not be on all the time, your engine needs to get up to temp.

I done this the other day and found that the resister will become red hot and may do some damage to the resister.

(I had it on for 10-15 mins)

And it will do because the thermostat controls coolant flow.

if the resistor is getting hot, that is because the fan is running at its reduced speed state (they have a two stage speed set up) and the power is going through the resistor.

It is possible to run without the resistor or bridge it so that it doesnt get used. This would stop it getting hot, but I wouldn't know if keeping the fan on for long periods on full power is a good idea..

wire up a little switch on the dash so when the temp rises in traffic etc you can just flick it on, and i also vote on dumping the resistor

Thats right, and even if you had no thermostat the airflow from the fan is only equivalent to driving at 15-20mph or so.

but I wouldn't know if keeping the fan on for long periods on full power is a good idea..

I can't see it being a problem, fans tend to keep themselves cool quite well unlike other applications of electric motors.

I can't see the point in the switch? I mean, when it gets hot in traffic, the fan cuts in anyway, no point in divine intervention. Fit a lower temp. thermoswitch if you want it to switch in sooner.

Loose the slow speed, if it makes you happier.

its not kicking in much at all, even when the temp is right up, thats why i want to hard wire it or try to find out what it could be

Try another thermoswitch then i'd say at first, yours maybe intermittent.
