Engine Trouble.

Recommended Posts

ashlee205gti

My car finally turned over after what seems like decades. But it has the following faults.

1. Will not idle on it's own, sometimes revs to 2'000RPM then cuts out.

2. When it does run (with foot on the pedal) it's very rough and isn't firing on all four.

3. Backfires through the AFM?

I'm so close now, just need a few ideas on solving this.

Many thanks.

my air flow meter did this on my 1.9 gti, changed it and it cured itself.

I had same problem caused by air leak on mine , back fireing as well trow afm but that was caused by me putting port 3 lead on 4 but thats ok now, but when she used to get low on revs 600rpm 800rpm ( mine dint like the idleing either) a quick blip on the trottle cause my afm to back fire, . testing air leak take K n N off or what either you got get a metal plate cover the afm up see if it stalls if it dont posiable air leak. you timeing might sliped with it not on all 4

It's not starting at all now? All it does is turn over and every now and then it goes bang out the exhaust? :)

I've checked the timing, double checked the firing order and even plugged the compression tester in. I got 180 across all 4.

have you tried a new dizzy cap and leads, and made sure all the leads are in the right place and no mix up between them,

You checked ignition components? Leads, cap, dizzy, coil.
