CaptainP 2 Posted May 6, 2007 Hi, after an unpleasant experience with a twisted manifold and pattern gaskets I've opted for the genuine ones from pug and a straight *hopefully* manifold! The pug gaskets have an inner ring which I'm guessing is more heat resistant?? Aligning them on the manifold as a test before I fit it, I can't seem to get all the gaskets to have the ring facing the same way. Do I put the ring side facing the manifold on 2 ports and facing the head on 2? If I set them all the same way it restricts the port holes. Does that make sense? Also with my twisted manifold is it possible to have it plained down to once again be straight? or will this seriously weaken the manifold? Obivously this twist must have occured when the manifold was welded - probably by mig.... Thanks Steve
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted May 6, 2007 I assume your talking about the 8v cast std manifold, Yes you can get these faced off by a good engineering company
CaptainP 2 Posted May 9, 2007 Thanks Miles. I know of a local head centre/engineering firm which I'll probably use. Back to the first part of my post - the gaskets and the fire rings. Any help on which way around the gaskets go? On the pattern ones I've used before they were the same both sides so I just fitted them how I thought best but these genuine ones...... Linked pic to a possible config but no matter how I align them I can't get all the fire rings the same facing way without covering a part of the exhaust port. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z295/Ca...foldGaskets.jpg P.S ignore the welded crack - it doesn't look pretty (spare manifold)
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 10, 2007 I just fit the gaskets so they clear the exhaust manifold ports, the only way they will iirc. Thats how I've done mine before & they always been fine, oe ones anyway. Pattern ones lasted about ten miles before they started blowing. Graham.
