After Carbs Convertion - Tachometer Doesn't Work

Recommended Posts

Hi,

yesterday was the big moment.

I turned the ignition key and my "new" engine fired up !

I have made a carbs convertion on my 92' GTI 205 Motronic.

It was great ! The deep intake sound from the trumpets, and the acceleration

is so much better then standard. The carbs are even not set up right, and

nevertheless the car runs without any problems really good and strong.

I'am very contently with my work, because i did it all on my own (nearly :( )

without any experience in that kind of work, but with the help of some of you and

the great article about carbs convertion on MI16 it finally runs.

THX GUYS !

But i have one problem remaining. The tachometer does not function.

I have built in the ignition of an Jetronic GTI, the old system was Motronic.

Is there a cable in the enginebay which i have to wire to the minus of the coil ?

If yes, where is the cable, what colour ?

The wire for the tachometer runs from the coil, which jetronic system have you fitted? Inlet mounted coil or inner wing one? Wire 112 is the one you are looking for (grey wire at pin 1 on the inlet mounted coil plug).

originally it was a Motronic GTI. The original coil was mounted on the intakemanifold.

Now, i have installed a round coil, the ignition amplifier module and a distributor from an

1.6L Pug. I mean, i have wired a switched plus to the coil and the module, the minus/body to the module,

one wire from the module to the minus of the coil and three wires from the module to the

distributor. Thats all i used from Jetronic. The old cabletree still left in my car is from

the Motronic system. So what cable from the motronic cabletree i have to wire to the minus of

the coil, or isn't that possible because the Motronic ECU provides the tachometer with the signal ?
