Tom_Fowler 0 Posted May 5, 2007 I have rebuilt a couple of rear beams lately replaces needle bearings, seals etc. And both have gone back together no problem at all. The one I am working on now I have tried to fit the new seals into the end of the main tube. One one that stops muck going into the needle bearings. But the thin metal seal retaining piece at the end of the main tube is not deep enough for the new seal. I have tried the seal into another tube and it fine? I took the beam apart some time ago but don't remember the old seals not fitting? Any Ideas? Thanks Tom
Pugnut 9 1 Cars Posted May 5, 2007 the band shouldn't be fitted hard up to the shoulder . you should leave app a 2mm , this then means the seal goes right into the band with the outer lip of the seal resting on the chamfered edge of the band. hope that makes sense!! Tom_Fowler 0 Posted May 6, 2007 Yeah I see what you mean and I think this gap has closed up looking at it now. It just seams odd as I have not moved these bands on any of the beams I have done yet this one must of moved somehow because the seals fitted when the beam was disamantled? I think these bands may be hard to adjust when they have been there for so long? Cheers Tom

welshpug 1,657 Posted May 7, 2007 much easier to fit some new ones as the old ones are more than likely to be rather corroded by now, part number is 5154 10 CROSSMEMBR SEAL EXT
