Baffled By Sump, Advise On Shells Please

Recommended Posts

just stripping the XUD9 bottom end for the crank first thing I noticed, it has an alloy sump, definatley not one Ive seen on a TD before. It has 2 drain plugs but one is above the other at the back of the sump  , its not baffled and its kinda square looking, similar to xu10 but not shaped to bellhousing. Any ideas what it is from?

2nd one, got the crank out and it looks to be mint, the shells however are slightly tarnished as though thgeyve started to pick up a bit but certainly haven't spun. Am I safe to just go ahead and stick a set of new standard shells on it or is it wiser to have a regrind and oversize shells? Ive checked the crankwith verniers and its not ovalled or pitted anywhere.

I've not had the sump off but my mum has a 205 auto which has a non finned alloy sump & the drain plug is at the back.

I'll check if that has an oil temp sensor fitting, looking at the parts cd it might have.

The crank could be fine with a polish rather than a full regrind if theres close to no marking.

Graham.
