Depends how much road noise you can handle, the more interior plastics (e.g. rear door cards/seats etc) you have the less noise you'll get.

Im in the middle of stripping mine, and all i can say is i was shocked at the weight of trim/carpet/underlay/seats etc that came out.

The rear seats arent heavy in the slightest. Take as much as you can out. Id leave the headlining in tho, it was very light and would stop alot of condensation etc

Saying that tho the more you lose the noisier it will get, its a sacrifice hehe

I currently still have my roof lining in, took it out on my last one but the roof flexes sooo much without a sunroof.

Might do it again still though... :(

My pug has nothing at all behind the drivers seat and just an upper dash and doorcards in the front. It is very noisy but if you're not bothered then go for it, you won't regret it. I took the headlining out too but as others have said it weighs nothing and the glue it leaves behind looks awful so you'd be wise to leave it IMO.

The only bit about removing the headlining that bothered me was just how much the roof flexes!

If you go drastic on your interior stripping out, you are taking weight mostly out of the rear of the car. This can effect the brake compensators / balance and make it more prone to locking up the rears. I know of a couple of people who have been caught out by this.

Battery in the boot is a good step too

Compared to the weight of the carpet, doorcards and underlay, the rear weight you're removing is minimal really. The only weight in the rear are a couple of pretty light seats, a few bits of plastic and a parcel shelf, hardly drastic, and the compensators are crap anyway, better off removed completely, most are old and past it, which is probably more the reason for unbalanced braking.

add to that 2 lightweight buckets and a pair of 4 point harnesses and you have my interior :P

No bias valve for my brakes either, never had any isues with rear end locking :P

Yep like that dash.

I've got a bias valve for my rears and even with it fully open the fronts lock first, Brembo 4 pots.

Baz Gti,

Do you have anymore pics of the SD cage? (i presume its challenge spec?)

If so have you any of where its sits on the front struts, and where the plate welds where the rear seats used to be?

It is a Challenge spec yes, but afaia they're not allowed to carry through the bulk head onto the front struts, as this is then considered as the suspension mounting point, in effect giving the car a spaceframe type layout.

I don't have any pics of the inside, but basically the two diagonal tubes meet onto a plate that is welded to the floor/tunnel, in front of where the seats would be. This is an addition to the std SD cage, as this one in particular is almost fully welded in.

ah right, i must have the non-challenge spec cage then! as mine go through to the suspension top mounts so wondered what it needed to look like.
