Low Oil Pressure

can anyone help me just bought a 205 gti 1.9 with a 1.6 gearbox my oil pressure gauge reads just 1 bar from red when i start the car even when cold and moves close to the red but the red light has not come on is this o.k

How high does the gauge go when you rev the engine?

 

Does it get higher the more you rev the engine, or does it stabilise at any point?

 

Pug instrumentation is dodgy at the best of times. I'd be inclined to blame the sender or the gauge before condemning the engine.

try and watch how quickly the light goes out after start up. the malority of cars only have the light so i just watched that. my guage did move though by about two bars.

 

edit: it probs is the sender, mine was, the needle ended up dancing.

on the front, next to the alternator, behind the inlet manifold.

Its the one on the right, nicely hidden under the inlet manifold.
