Resistor For Cooling Fan

All i need to know is, whereabouts is the resistor located? and, would there be a reason why my car doesn't seem to have one?

Its a cylinder clipped next to the radiator roughly in front of the battery. It looks the same as the dip-dim resistor but that is hidden away.

For better cooling and reliability just replace it with a bit of wire. The only downside is a noisier fan but I see that as a benefit too because I like to hear it working for peace of mind.

The cooling fan loom is completely separate to anything else so try tracing it to see if the resistor hasn't ended up anywhere else as you will at least need the connector.

Another vote for this, as far as I can tell the only reason for slow speed is that full speed is quite loud...one of my GTis has run like this for ages.

By this do you mean replace the resistor with a bit of wire so that the fan runs all the time?

They'll still only run when warm, but they'll come straight on at full speed instead of at half speed first.

Thats weird,

 

i have a brown plug hanging and another brown plug with a resistor behind the headlight.

 

My fans were coming on full blast when the car got hot and its to noisy for me so i changed the one behind the headlight and everything now works as it should?

 

I still have a brown plug hanging

They should be clipped to the rad but replacement rads are always missing the clip for it so you find them stashed in all sorts of places around that area. Not a good idea to leave them loose though as they can melt their way into the wiring loom causing all sorts of damage, this destroyed the alarm that had been fitted to my car when I got it...

P.S. Clip is available from Peugeot for not a lot, then just need to pop rivet it on...
