Oil Pressure Drops Under Hard Braking/cornering?

Recommended Posts

Guest cookstar

Only recently on hard and even normal braking and cornering the oil pressure guage drops right down and the warning light comes on. As well as the big red STOP light on the dash.

I have checked oil levels and they seem to be fine, what could be causing this, any ideas what to look for.

Car is 205 GTI 1.6

Cheers

Are you *sure* the oil level is topped up to maximum? To get the STOP light to come on under braking you're normally running below minimum on the dipstick.

Certainly if the gauge is dropping to zero and the STOP light comes on then you definately have an oil pressure/starvation issue rather than just a dodgy gauge/sender.

might be worth flushing the oil and pipes then refilling with good quality 10/40. You may be having oil return issues when driving.

I will double check the levels today. But am pretty sure it has plenty in there.

If all else checks out, ensure that the crankshaft pulley bolt is tight (drivers-side wheel arch). If it's worked loose your pressure guage will be all over the place & the Stop light will come on; the oil pump is tensioned with the bolt.

Mark.
