What Steering Wheel?

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

I want to get a new aftermarket wheel for my new Gti.

It currently has an almost brand new Momo wheel, which I think is a Pilota 2. It's OK, but not really my cup of tea. It maybe wouldn't be so bad if it was all black, but it's the one with the red inserts at each side.

Anyway, I keep trawling eBay but just can't find anything I like. I'm quite fussy so it's hard to describe why I don't like a lot of the wheels available. Basically I just want something with a black leather rim, and black spokes, and preferably with red stitching but that isn't essential. Something with a flat bottom would be nice too.

The only thing that comes close to that description is those cheapo PVC ones that are all over eBay described as JDM. If they weren't cheap tat I'd be tempted.

Other than that, I really like the old Momo Corse model that Dreamweaver has in his 205, but I don't think you can get them now and I don't really want a worn 2nd hand one.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you seen the OMP Trecento? is as you described.

Mine is 300mm and I decided not to use it again, bit too small(gone back to standard)

You might get it in a bigger size? But its a very nice wheel IMO.

Well made and feels nice to the grip!

Gentrix - those top 2 are pretty much my cup of tea. Have always liked that Sparco one, just that I've been hoping to get one a bit cheaper but they never show up n eBay.

J Turnell - yep, one of those fellas. But I'm sure in the picture I've seen of Dreamweaver's one it has red stitching. Maybe a different wheel, or maybe my memory is just crap.

I've just bought a Momo Race wheel, always thought they were really nice.

EDIT: do the aftermarket bosses make the wheel sit further out? Looks like it and i hope so ;)

they do. my bro in law had a momo on his 306, it brought it forward and it was a more comfortable driving position imo.

Hadn't realised how heavy it had made my steering till

I swapped back, still a cool little wheel though...

Drop me a PM. That way I can keep it in my inbox and won't forget ;)

I will be selling it sometime towards the end of June, once I have brought the 205 back to London.

Mine is a Momo Corse, but it does have red stitching on the inside - I'd never noticed til you mentioned it and I went and checked

It was bought new by the previous owner from DT back in 2003.

Its a brilliant wheel for the 205.

I have this too with an adapted snap off boss so it sits even further out so I can get my knees under it!

Mine is grey in the centre though as opposed to silver

I've found the puppy I want now. More or less the same as (if not exactly the same as) Dreamweaver's wheel.

It's called the Momo Tuner now. Maybe it's always been called that, but I was sure it used be called Corse.

Anyway, it's black leather with black spokes and red stitching. As it's a brand new Momo it's not as cheap as I wanted (i.e. didn't want to spend more than £100), but still not as ridiculously priced as most brand new leather steering wheels are these days. There's a guy on eBay selling hem for £115 plus £10 postage, but he only lives a few miles up the road in North London, so I'm going to call him tomorrow and see if I can pick up and avoid the postage cost.

Get in.
