Xu10 Crank Swap Questions

Recommended Posts

Richie-Van-GTi

Took the head of the xu10j4r earlier to examine the bores ready to fit an xud crank, I understand the crank will give a longer throw. Just concerned if it will fit or not? Photos below, you can see the piston already sits about dead level with block deck height.

Another side question, picture below is gti6 exhaust mani, does it look like the right fitment as people suggested it fits the 205 downpipe with a renagle job but the flang looks totally different?

that doesnt look like a standard flange! rest of it is identical to mine but Mine has a normal type fire ring and spring bolt arrangement.

The pistons sit 1mm below the deck of the block on all XU10's

The diesel crank is only a 2mm longer stroke which is 1mm either side so it brings the pistons right to the top of the bore, and 1mm lower down the bore at the other end.

You can get the re-angling plates for the gti-6 manifold as well, can't remember where I saw them though. I cut my bulkhead and re-welded it like des developments do.

It's good to see the engine being used for what I intended it for :D

Depends what dieselcrank, the 1.9 diesel is 88mm stroke but 2.1 diesel is 92mm stroke.

Sure simon will know what year it is. Anyone know anymore about that manifold flange? Not sure what downpipe I need to get hold of.

No the 1.8 diesel crank is a shorter stroke IIRC

I took the engine from a P reg 406. I was fairly sure it was an early version of the engine because it has the vernier pulleys and oil spray bars? Whether it was the original engine in the car I don't know

XUD7 1769cc has same 88mm stroke but a smaller bore at 80mm :)
