Dj_mini 7 Posted April 29, 2007 Hello im after sum advice. Basic run down me and a mate have rebuilt an engine for his 106 gti with a few upratted parts inside he has also bought some second hand tb;s (jenvey) + a poo inlet manifold and kms management inc adaptor loom. Rite the problems started when we started the car the it ran but badly it sounded like a miss fire or the timing was out so i went through and re checked the timing and it was spot on so i then decided to put the std inlet and ecu back on it started and ran a dream sounded great no problems. So then i put the kms and adaptor loom back on and it still ran great no problems. At this point i thought it might be an injector on the tb's so then put the tb,s back on but keeping all the sensors and injectors i had running on the std inlet. It ran like a bag of crap again! backfire's pops bangs running very ruff as if it was being held back if you snapped the throttle open it would just die. So to summarise it ran a dream on the std inlet and kms but if i change JUST the inlet to the tb,s it runns badly again any ideas? Any help would me much appreiciated. Mikey G 3 Posted April 29, 2007 Air leak? Have you changed the maps in the KMS for the standard inlet to the TB's?
Dj_mini 7 Posted April 29, 2007 The kms came with the tb,s so im asuming its mapped for them. Surely it wouldnt be that far out from the map that would be needed for the std inlet? id expect a bit of power loss but not for it to run as badly as it does. It gets realy bogged down is the best way i can discribe it like the coil pack had failed or somthing.
Sandy 191 Posted April 29, 2007 The fuelling map for TB's vs standard inlet will be entirely different, likewise transient throttle compensations. Second hand gear or new?
Dj_mini 7 Posted April 29, 2007 All second hand sandy bloody night mare! could it be that its over fueling thats whats causing the backfires / pop and bangs?
M3Evo 0 Posted April 30, 2007 (edited) Are all the throttles balanced and shut right down? If it's popping in the inlet it's running lean, and if it's shaking about like a jelly on a plate, it might just be that the throttles aren't balanced. However, you're kinda pissing in the wind trying to sort out any major fueling issues without a WBO2 sensor. My car was pretty much exactly as you describe when I got it running, shaking engine, wouldn't rev, would barely pull itself along. However, a day with a WBO2 and someone doing some mapping transformed it into a drivable car so don't be disheartened! Not sure how the KMS thing works, but is there a facility to align the throttle position sensor? That's quite important otherwise the ECU won't necessarily read the throttle being opened which can cause big stumbles etc. Edited April 30, 2007 by M3Evo
Dj_mini 7 Posted April 30, 2007 Im 99% sure its a mapping isue as iv put the std ecu back on and admitly its not great on the tb's as the map sensor is not conected but is alot better than the kms! so my guess is that the kms was mapped on the tb's as bloke said that he bought the set up off but with larger injectors. So you were all right sandy you hav pm as i convinced him to buy one of you inlet manifolds as the one he has is a cut and shut job
